Marcy Cruz

An avid traveler, writer and fashion lover, Marcy Cruz was born and raised in New York City.  Even as a young girl, Marcy never let her size stop her from expressing her unique style to the world. Growing up plus size in the 80’s was a tough time fashion-wise and it forced Marcy to utilize her creative side when it came to creating a great wardrobe. Whether she was be-dazzling her jeans or cutting up her tees, she always found a way to work with the clothing options available to her.

She was told by many that writing was not a “real” career and because of that, she majored in Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  After graduation, her career path took a turn when she was offered a great opportunity to work for a corporate travel company as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President. That position was the start of a successful career where Marcy went on to work for Continental Airlines in their Marketing department and then Redcats USA, a plus size catalog company, as a Website Administrator.

During her seven years at Redcats USA (now known as fullbeauty), she went from being a Website Administrator for the KingSize brand to working as a Senior Website Administrator for OneStopPlus.com (fullbeauty.com) and then working on the Jessica London brand as an Online Merchandising Manager.  Being a plus size customer herself, Marcy was an asset to her team since she could offer a shopper’s viewpoint on product and share her ideas from a customer’s point of view.

After leaving Redcats USA, Marcy realized that being a writer can be a career and decided to pursue it while freelancing on social media projects. Since then, she has written for various online publications such as Belle-Noir Magazine and Goddess Magazine, had her own weekly blog column called Fearless Fridays on Belle-Noir Magazine’s website and has written some fashion pieces for MadisonPlus.

From 2011 to 2013, Marcy was on the production team for Full Figured Fashion Week, where she handled the advertising for their souvenir journal and step&repeat media wall. She was also the planner and organizer of their shopping event.  In August 2013, Marcy became the first-ever Blog Editor for PLUS Model Magazine, where she continues to write about fashion, life, body empowerment and plus positive topics today.

In 2012, Marcy had a short story published in the book, Hot and Heavy: Fierce Fat Girls on Life, Love and Fashion, an anthology edited by Virgie Tovar, plus positive author and lecturer. Marcy is presently working on two essays to be published in books that are being released in 2016. She is also presently working on her own book in hopes of getting it published in 2016-2017.

You can find Marcy at her personal lifestyle blog Fearlessly Just Me, where Marcy talks to her readers about having fearless moments in life and being true to yourself. She looks forward to engaging with more women online/offline and continuing to merge her writing career with her love for fashion, while empowering women everywhere along the way to accept themselves as they are and love themselves no matter what.
